How do I tell my friend that buying and supercharging an M3 isn't a great idea? Going from 240 crank horsepower (stripped s2000) to 625 wheel horsepower is a pretty big step up, and this person has a HEAVY lead foot. Oh yeah, we happen to live in VA.

To make matters worse, my friend happens to be a lady, and she's gotten upset in the past when people questioned her driving skill. I'm not saying she's a bad driver, I'm just worried she'll end up with a suspended license.

Edit: it's not like she'll end up dead, she goes to VIR or Summit Point twice a month March-October so she knows how to drive.

Tell her to buy the M3, but wait awhile and drive the M3 and then ask if she really needs more power. Tell her to take it slow.

If it's a genuine concern then just be forthright about it. She'll either take your advice or she won't.

Just a stock M3 should be plenty power, unless she wants jail time.

Tell her to get used to the regular M3 first before supercharging it.

Sounds like she'd learn pretty quickly (*snicker*) on her own. At least I would hope she does before she hurts herself or someone else.

You have an e9x M3, right? Are you comfortable letting her try yours (in a track or other high-performance setting) in the hopes of scaring herself straight?

She's pretty set on supercharging it, she set a budget and found a car that'll allow her to spend money on a supercharger kit.

1) Let her buy it
2) Wait 'til she's caught doing a bazillion miles over the legal speed limit
3) Make a lowball offer to her for it when she gets out of jail
4) Sell it at non-deflated market price outside of VA
5) Profit

I'm supposed to say something like, "Do something before her reckless driving gets herself and someone else killed!", but in all honestly she sounds like the type who will not see the potential negative consequences of their actions until they are happening to them in real life and cannot be denied.

she spent a few days driving a supercharged M3 on a roadtrip. It's funny, she has no seat time in a stock M3 but tons of it in modded ones on tracks.

haha. That doesn't help you. M3 is my fave BMW aside from the i8 or i3 (shut up - I'm one of those Tesla people - :D) so it's hard for me to argue against her getting one and suping it up. If she is headstrong, maybe just support her and that's all you can do?

Kinja'd!!! AM3R > Eli's Got 2

I actually saw my first i3 in the wild today. Not bad, and the reviews are really favorable. I want a Tesla BADLY. Such an awesome car..

I'll be the first one she gives a ride if she gets it! I'm excited for her but at the same time worried she'll get a really bad ticket. At least it'll teach her to slow down I guess.

YAY! I'm so glad you like! The i3 is getting grrrrrrrreat reviews. I'm really happy they moved from hybrid to all electric. I need to go drive one- SOON.

Yeah I really wanna test drive an i3. Even the people that absolutely hate the look (it DOES look like it's excreting a Porsche..) admit it's a great car to drive. I'm definitely curious. I don't think I'll get the chance to drive an i8 anytime soon but I know my local dealer got one in. IMO Electric>hybrid.

Yeah, the F30 Active hybrid 3 was pretty cool, it was even faster to 60 than the 335i, but I wouldn't pay the premium for it. I'd just go diesel.

I can't wait til more people start picking up i3's. I'm curious to see how they'll retain value.

I'm going to give a piece of opp-ed advice here. I owned and supercharged an E46 M3. I felt that the car only reached the proper balance of HP/chasis after reaching 465 HP. I have also known many people that have put, specifically the ESS SC kit on the E92 M3. If she hasn't gotten her license suspended in the S2k, then she may be fine in the M3 as well. She might have a bit more restraint than we think, and cops may give her more leeway then us men get.

I know that many of my friends literally said goodbye to me honestly believing I had no chance of surviving the purchase of a WS-6 when I was 21. I lived. You should let her follow her dreams and get as much seat time in that car as you can. I am also a believer that due to the low torque of the 4.0L V8 in the E9x it really does need a supercharger to come into its own. Sounds like this girl knows WTF she is doing... go along for the ride.

I can promise you that I'll be going on A LOT of rides when she gets it. Good call on the torque. She's actually going with a VF engineering kit, they have a special ($2k off) on most of their kits besides the top one.

I know how you feel, I'm absolutely mesmerized by the idea of owning a Tesla Model S. I don't think it'll happen unless I move because I don't have a garage (townhouse).

Kinja'd!!! Eli's Got 2 > AM3R
08/28/2014 at 15:24

Kinja'd!!!0

I have a townhouse, too. But I have a big garage. :) Townhouses are great! I love having a HOA that does everything (even though the management company is the absolute worst and they've been replacing the roof here for a year and a half!)

There is no way I could handle more of a house than what I have. I'm so weird. I don't like huuuge houses or multi-levels. I have one of the few big one stories in our track.

Kinja'd!!! AM3R > Eli's Got 2
08/28/2014 at 15:29

Kinja'd!!!0

I like my neighborhood a lot, the HOA is pretty strict and sometimes it gets annoying but I still love living here.

I'm the opposite, I have a 3 level with no garage! I chose the house with a big front/back yard and a finished basement instead of one with a 1 car garage.

Kinja'd!!! Eli's Got 2 > AM3R
08/28/2014 at 15:37

Kinja'd!!!0

I loooooove my neighborhood. I have everything I need close by. Basements rock! They are really hard to come by, here. Mine is a corner, so I have a little more yard, but it's not that big. I looked for 2 years before I finally found it. My wish list was crazy; I wasn't liking anything and almost gave up. This one was brand new inside and met almost everything on my list. I made an offer the next day. lol I'm very happy in my little house. :)

I would like 1 more bedroom (I only have 3) and I want to knock out a wall, and re-configure the kitchen. I have a pantry; which is nice, but the way they set it up.... Let's just say, I would have done it differently. They put the fridge hook up at one end, and I wish it was on the other. We will always want to change things. Haha.

Kinja'd!!! AM3R > Eli's Got 2
08/28/2014 at 15:54

Haha yeah I've been putting money away for a kitchen remodel. I'm still not 100% sure how I want it. There's a spare room in the basement used as a "guest" room but besides that there's 3 up on the top level.

I was never much of a gardener or handyman, but it's like I'm always planning little projects!
